To preface, I must mention that while I the idea of Pokemon is very dear to me, I denounce TPC (The Pokemon Company) and Pokemon as a media franchise due to the way it preys on nostalgia to promote consumerism. Personally I strongly believe that despite what TPC may tell you, the idea of Pokemon belongs to everyone - and we have the power to exercise that ownership, by substituting our own creativity in place of theirs. Along with home-made plushies, Fakemon is my favorite form of such creativity because it allows us to bond with new creatures that can still easily be seen as Pokemon, but at the same time are firmly outside TPC's control.
So anyway, recently I started making Fakemon designs of my own, yay! For now I'm making a set based on classic RPG monsters.
You'll notice that most of the pictures here are mirrored - this is actually a design technique I've learnt from Subjectively (one of my favorite Fakemon creators), where you draw designs using the "mirroring" tool. It seems like nothing special, but only having to draw one half of the design at a time is actually incredibly liberating - especially combined with my own modification which is drawing at very low resolutions (128x128 to 256x256) to not have to worry about precise lineart. I seriously recommend this technique to anyone with even a passing interest in character design!
The Mons each have four abilities, three standard ones and one "Specialty" which is unique (at least across this set) to their evolution line. For hypothetical balance reasons, I'm assuming all other Pokemon also work this way. Each Mon also has two Dex entries, to mimic the way it was in the original games. Not all Mons have their shiny designs yet. New uploads will be placed on top for now.
Update - I now require credit for using the Mon designs, see paragraph below for more details. Previously I said no credit needed (because I don't want traffic on this page), but I realized that that way would be more susceptible to abuse (f.eg. someone trying to pass the designs as their own and restrict access) so I changed it. Apologies for the confusion, this is more complicated than I thought.
The images here are all "all-rights-reserved" (also no reposting pls), but the designs and all associated text info (names, typings, Dex entries, etc) of the Mons themselves are all free to use with credit. So essentially if you like any of these Mons, you can use it for your art as you want (just be sure to remove any references to "Pokemon" or existing abilities/moves if you use them in a way that would create copyright issues). Credit me by linking this page but discreetly, I don't want traffic here lol
Please do not repost my drawings anywhere, thank you. I actively do not want popularity of any sort, I just want to low-key share my art with someone.
Boarc
Boar Pokemon
Normal/Fighting
Its unimpressive size belies its strength and aggressive nature. Even much bigger Pokemon think twice before entering Boarc-claimed territory.
Widely known as a troublesome pest, it ruins forest undergrowths by digging for truffles. Large-scale infestations of Boarcs are notoriously difficult to get rid of.
Bigpigg
Grunt Pokemon
Normal/Fighting
While Boarcs are merely strong, Bigpiggs are also intelligent. They form surprisingly human-like social structures, organize shelter in caves and even brew berry alcohol in hollow tree trunks.
When a Boarc infestation goes by unchecked, their belligerent lifestyles may eventually cause them to evolve into a tribe of Bigpiggs and start terrorizing even human settlements.
Pigtan
Big Boss Pokemon
Normal/Fighting
A Pigtan's arrival is heralded by all other wild Pokemon fleeing the local wilds in droves. What follows is a Bigpigg rampage on such a scale that some regions consider it a natural disaster.
All Bigpiggs under a Pigtan's rule must pay it tribute in the finest truffles they can find. It usually gets more than it can eat, resulting in an ever-expanding hoard.
A Bigpigg evolves into a Pigtan once it has reached a certain minimum level and defeated either at least 10 Bigpiggs or 1 Pigtan.
Abilities: Sturdy, Guts, Stamina
Specialty: Second Wind - Once per battle, regains 50% health after KOing an enemy Pokemon.
Moves: Tackle, Leer, Bulldoze, Headbutt, Endure, Close Combat, Beat Up, Taunt, Uproar, Mean Look, Skull Bash, Final Gambit
Wispott
Pot Spirit Pokemon
Ghost
If you suddenly find items around your house hiding and rearranging themselves on their own, check your pots and bottles - one of them may have a resident!
Not everyone knows this, but despite their mischievous side Wispotts tend to be easy to befriend. Be careful not to encourage their pranks too much, or you may have a problem on your hands...
Specialty: Mischief Spell - Its first damaging move that hits in each battle also confuses the target.
Geenee
Placid Spirit Pokemon
Ghost/Psychic
Each Wispott has two sides - one would like to sit in its pot all day and sleep, the other wants to cause mischief all around. Geenee is what happens when the former is indulged more.
A typical Geenee sleeps for around 19 hours a day, and for the rest of it likes to impress people and Pokemon with displays of magic tricks.
Specialty: Calming Spell - Its first damaging move that hits in each battle also puts the target to sleep.
Freetee
Violent Spirit Pokemon
Ghost/Fire
Each Wispott has two sides - one would like to sit in its pot all day and sleep, the other wants to cause mischief all around. Freetee is what happens when the latter is indulged more.
A Freetee never sleeps. There's no telling at what time of day it will become active, which can be incredibly troublesome for trainers who want to curb its extravagant and dangerous troublemaking.
Specialty: Blazing Spell - Its first damaging move that hits in each battle also burns the target.
Each Wispott has an 50% chance of evolving into either a Geenee or a Freetee when it reaches a certain level. Each use of Withdraw or Nasty Plot moves the chance by 5% towards Geenee or Freetee respectively, up to 100% in either direction. A Relaxed or Calm nature Wispott will always evolve into a Geenee, and an Impish or Naughty nature Wispott will always evolve into a Freetee.
Abilities: White Smoke, Moody, Prankster
Moves: Smokescreen, Astonish, Mimic, Withdraw, Nasty Plot, Power Gem, Shadow Ball, Wish, Me First, Hex, Power Swap, Metronome
Cheekn
Mysterious Chick Pokemon
Normal
It eats its weight in berries each day and doesn't do much else. Many trainers have given up trying to get it to evolve.
If a Cheekn mysteriously appears near your house, call a Pokemon Ranger immediately. Whatever you do, don't give it food - it will never stop pestering you afterwards.
Rok
Mighty Bird Pokemon
Normal/Flying
Legends tell of a cruel man who denied a wounded Rok shelter in his barn. The Rok simply took his barn and flew away, foundations and all.
A Rok's wingspan is so wide, its incoming shadow is sometimes momentarily mistaken for a solar eclipse. Few ever get to see one, though.
Cheekn evolves into Rok once it reaches a certain minimum level and has eaten at least 100 berries in the past 7 days.
Abilities: Reckless, Regenerator, Pressure
Specialty: Go Hungry - Lowers Attack at the end of each turn it's on the field (resets on switching out as normal).
Moves: Tackle, Block, Growl, Refresh, Bulk Up, Recover, Take Down, Wing Attack, Double Edge, Tailwind, Sky Drop, Roar
Leechi
Fruit Bat Pokemon
Dark/Flying
It trains its fangs on progressively harder berries to one day be able to drain blood from its victims.
Its ambushing abilities are rather poor and its bites are more annoying than dangerous, but still it tries its best.
Vampino
Stalking Bat Pokemon
Dark/Flying
Nosfebatu
Vampire Bat Pokemon
Dark/Flying
Outside of specialized equipment, there is no way for a human to defend against or even predict a Nosfebatu's attack until it's too late. Victims may need months to recover.
It is said that the idea of gargoyles was originally inspired by the striking silhouette of a Nosfebatu perched on a castle wall.
Abilities: Infiltrator, Insomnia, Defiant
Specialty: Stalker - Whenever it KOs an enemy Pokemon, it changes into Stalking Form for 1 turn. In this form, it always evades enemy attacks.
Moves: Bite, Scratch, Growl, Absorb, Wing Attack, Taunt, Crunch, Slash, Swords Dance, Aerial Ace, Giga Drain
Ayee
Vision Pokemon
Psychic/Dark
Frail and cowardly, this Pokemon deal with threats by seeing them coming and subsequently being far away once they arrive.
Multiple Ayees seen in a single area might be a sign that they're spying for a local Siiyu.
Siiyu
Spectator Pokemon
Psychic/Dark
Ayee's desire to see any incoming threat has manifested in perfect, unblinking 360 degrees vision. However, its paranoia has only increased as a result.
Its entire territory is an intricate web of spies and informants, established to protect itself from threats both real and imaginary. Few trainers will get to lay eyes on it, much less capture it.
Abilities: Keen Eye, Levitate, Unnerve
Specialty: All-seeing - Ignores opponent's evasion increases.
Moves: Leer, Confusion, Bite, Detect, Mean Look, Glare, Thundershock, Crunch, Psybeam, Volt Switch, Hyper Beam, Solar Beam
Demomo
Forbidden Knowledge Pokemon
Psychic
Its mind is said to be a gateway to knowledge so vast even it cannot comprehend a fraction of it. Some may be willing to share pieces of it, at a cost that only becomes apparent in the future.
Demomo's piercing eyes are said to scan the very heart. It can sense others' intentions even better than one can evaluate their own.
Abilities: Levitate, Telepathy, Magic Guard
Specialty: Revelation - Whenever it or an enemy Pokemon switches in, its first move temporarily becomes a random move that's super effective against the opponent. The move turns back once used.
Moves: Confusion, Detect, Focus Energy, Disable, Hypnosis, Psybeam, Foresight, Curse, Reflect, Psychic, Pain Split, Trick Room
Glitsnap
Fake Treasure Pokemon
Poison/Dark
With a subtle toxic mist, it can cause its victims to hallucinate a mirage of what they most desire inside it. Those fooled by it will get chewed up, poisoned, drained of energy and spit out.
This Pokemon is known to wander around, looking for victims who aren't privy to its tricks yet. It is especially dangerous to humans to whom it poses as irresistible treasure.
Abilities: Merciless, Strong Jaw, Battle Armor
Specialty: Treasure Mirage - Whenever it enters the battle for the first time, it changes into Mirage Form. In this form it always goes last, but the opponent will ignore orders to gaze at its mirage. Glitsnap returns to its original form immediately after an opponent wastes its turn to gaze at the mirage.
Moves: Bite, Leer, Absorb, Pursuit, Sludge, Spikes, Withdraw, Lick, Poison Fang, Scary Face, Crunch, Giga Drain
Gargille
Gargoyle Pokemon
Rock
Despite having wings, this Pokemon is too heavy to fly. Highly sedentary, it becomes more lively during the rain when it spits out the water that pools in the hollow back of its head.
Human-made gargoyles predate the first known Gargilles, whose origin is a complete mystery - as are the tablets they never seem to let go of.
Gargaltua
Stone Drake Pokemon
Rock/Dragon
Given its weight, the fact that it's able to fly even for short durations is a credit to its immense strength. Its spouts of water are powerful enough to put dents in concrete.
If a Gargille loses its tablet, a Gargaltua is certain to appear before long and hand it a new one. How it acquires them is still unknown, even to Gargaltua trainers.
Abilities: Sturdy, Solid Rock, Hydration
Specialty: Rain Spitter - If it knows any Water-type moves, it changes into Spitter Form during rain. In this form it can only use Water-type moves, but the moves have priority and a 200% modifier to power (in addition to the bonus from rain).
Moves: Tackle, Water Gun, Bide, Wing Attack, Rock Tomb, Body Slam, Dragon Dance, Ancient Power, Dragon Rage, Mega Punch, Hydro Pump, Dragon Claw
Designer notes - The evolution probably looks a bit too "cool" for Pokemon standards, but since it's a Dragon-type I think I could let that slide.
Yojumbo
Loyal Warrior Pokemon
Fighting
Every Yojumbo's goal in life is to find someone to protect - whether a master or a vulnerable friend. Some bond with their protectee for life, others do it merely in exchange for food or status.
A Yojumbo stands between its protectee and attackers like an impenetrable wall, inflating its belly with air to deflect incoming threats. An over-protective one can be troublesome for a trainer.
Abilities: Thick Fat, Intimidate, Steadfast
Specialty: Belly Bounce - All contact moves used against it suffer recoil damage.
Moves: Tackle, Follow Me, Leer, Bide, Bulk Up, Body Slam, Vital Throw, Endure, Wring Out, Glare, Counter, Double Edge
Designer notes - Yojumbo might just be my all-time favorite Pokemon and I have no idea why. Certainly I'd put him on every team I could lol
Clacalaca
Sugar Skull Pokemon
Ghost/Fairy
When a human or Pokemon dies and others can't get over its death, groups of Clacalaca may sometimes appear at its grave to try and cheer them up. Unfortunately, most find them scary instead.
Clacalaca sense when a spirit is having trouble passing on, and will organize musical rituals at its grave to help it achieve that goal.
Abilities: Super Luck, Pixilate, Dancer
Specialty: Unbreakable Cheer - Immune to moves and abilities based on negative emotions (such as Leer, Intimidate, Mean Look, etc).
Moves: Astonish, Swagger, Encore, Swift, Flail, Light Screen, Dizzy Punch, Swords Dance, Rain Dance, Shadow Punch, Uproar, Lunar Dance
